At last, summer has arrived! We bounded from June Gloom to not only hot, but super hot!
To cool down from the heat, swarms of people flock to the beach to swim, surf, dive and boat. It’s what you do in SoCal, or anywhere you have access to water. Nothing beats the heat like a dip in the blue ocean.
There’s another way to cool down this summer.
Color experts say that the affect colors have on us correlates to how that color behaves in nature. What we experience from a color depends on what we associate with it subconsciously. Blue means clear skies, outdoor play and lazing by a cooling azure ocean. It also means there’s no rain in the near future which is why it reminds us of stability, tranquility, softness and calm.
Beyond psychology, blue emits a vibration that’s beneficial to the mind and body. It has been measured to actually slow down metabolism, which produces a physically calming effect.
Which is why interior designers select the colors that they do.
They know that using blue tones makes an area feel cooler, larger and brings a feeling of serenity. You won’t see many fast food restaurants painted blue!
Blue is also associated with depth and stability. It symbolizes trust, loyalty, wisdom, confidence, intelligence, faith and truth. “True blue” means exactly that.
Of course, there’s one more way to surround yourself in the feeling of sky and sea: Wear some blue!
This fashion-forward, one-of-a-kind flowing silk chiffon cover-up can be worn over a swim suit (if you’re trying to prevent getting a tan) or as a graceful, show-stopping dressy cape.

“Somewhere over the rainbow skies are blue,
and the dreams that you dare to dream really can come true!”
- Frank Baum, from the Wizard of Oz
